Movie Survey: What Next?

It's pop culture democracy time at MMBlog! I'm planning to see a movie over the upcoming holiday weekend. But which movie is yet to be decided.

Gentle reader, which of the following should I see with my friends and then review for you? The choices are listed in alphabetical order:
  1. "Get Smart"
  2. "Hancock"
  3. "Wall-E"
  4. "Wanted"
Let me know in comments below, and tell me why I should see the film of your choice.

I'd probably go see Hancock if I could only see what is on the list. I like Will Smith, except for the black helicopters and the CIA sneaking into the urban areas to deliver crack comments, but in spite of those rather loopy beliefts generally not been disappointed with his acting. I should paraphrase that by saying that he generally finds the right vehicle for his limited range. When does the hero rise to his obligations and what does society do with its warriors when there are no wars?

Get Smart I can assume will need to be updated of course into something that is usually uglier and less funny than the original because the people in Hollywood now are so much smarter than those in the 60's(snark alert).

I'll also pass on Wall-E as it looks like a very expensive version of Wallis and Grommet's A Grand Day Out. While the only thing I would say about Wanted is "...bullets moving in arcs? Yeah, right!

If I had to see an Angelie Jolie film I would probably rent A Might Heart which was about Marianne Pearl the wife of the murdered WSJ reporter, Danny Pearl. And the rest of the films I want to see and mostly haven't would include There Will Be Blood, Hellboy II, the Ox Bow Incident(I realized I had read the book several times but never saw the film), and another Dana Andrews film which was just released on DVD, Where the Sidewalks End. Directed by Otto Premminger and written by Ben Hecht this one is a film noir about a policeman who accidentally beats a suspect to death and then tries to hide his involvement. Premminger used the same cast a year later for Laura. Plus in a little bit of casting against type Premminger used his neighbor, Harry von Zell, as a major character in the plot. von Zell was already well known as an announcer and 2nd banana to George Burns. But his character punched out another character and then was knifed for his attempted rescue of a crook's girlfriend.

But the oddest film I would recommend would be Kitt Kitteridge-An Ameican Girl. My sister teaches 3rd grade and the girls in the class, she tells me, have been waiting, like, forever for their film to be released.
