Quirky Asia Files: Soy Sauce = Love

Would you like some yellow fever along with your dinner?  Check out this ad for soy sauce (via Serious Eats, which also has the translation of the voiceover.)   Gee, it's pretty bad.

(And if you must know, my soy sauce preferences are Japan's Kikkoman and Taiwan's Kimlan.)

Hmm, I always thought cake was love.

Yellow fever? I wonder who this commercial is targeted at, the white male demographic fluent in Chinese, or the Asian female demographic?

John Tierney has an interesting article about this, referencing a Columbia U. study (linked there).

Some suggestions of the study are that men generally didn't discriminate by race in their willingness to date, while women in general preferred to date men of the same race. The exception is Asian women who showed the least discrimination by race and actually had a small preference for white men (see the penultimate paragraph of the article).

Maybe we should be talking about white fever ...

(Can you hear the evil cackling? Cuz I am, you know, cackling, evilly.)

My sibling and I always refer to "white fever" as "snowblindness."

Evil cackles all around!

A friend of mine loves Kikoman so much he made it his username on AIM.

"Snowblindness" -- (slowly collapses to floor chortling and snorfling)

Ahh, that's perfect.
