Hollywood knows who the real heroes have been for the last nine years and they can't stomach doing anything that might be seen as praise for those men and women; heroism itself suffers as a consequence.
Look back at the Buffy series and you'll see she reflects how many see the Bush administration in a number of ways: her understanding that her enemies are really evil and need to be killed, that talk doesn't turn vampires into golfing buddies, that sometimes you have to torture a captured enemy to gain information in order to save innocent lives, that some people (nations) have a special duty to be heroes, among other things.
Well, I have to stop here -- I'm getting the urge to explore the metaphor of Buffy as America in the age of terrorism. I'll take a couple of aspirin and lie down until it subsides.
