"The Overseas Selfie": Narcissism and Global Voluntourism

Not surprised.  A blurb:
Voluntourism is ultimately about the fulfillment of the volunteers themselves, not necessarily what they bring to the communities they visit.  In fact, medical volunteerism often breaks down existing local health systems.  In Ghana, I realized that local people weren’t purchasing health insurance, since they knew there would be free foreign health care and medications available every few months.  This left them vulnerable in the intervening times, not to mention when the organization would leave the community.

Bill Whittle Comments on OWS

This is brilliant.  I add that these people should also watch lots of "Dirty Jobs" ... and participate in some of them.  Oh, and I think everything applies double to these little fools.  Oh, and Whittle is always well-spoken and polite, but if you want a real rant, check out Frank Miller's (yes, that Frank Miller, the awesome graphic artist).

What's Love Got To Do, Got To Do With It?

Seriously?   That's the best you can do?  On the other hand, I'm not feelin' the love, so does that mean I don't have to do a darn thing?  Fine by me.  "Love" and blind emotionalism have no place in serious discussions of policy.  Shoot, even a political body as recognizably idiotic as the US Congress isn't falling for this one.

Poor Poor Pitiful Me

Oh, PUH-LEEZ!  By the way, I'm sure we'll be hearing all sorts of whining and dipstick comments by politicians in the days and months ahead until November 2012, so note the new blog tags.  Also, I cannot believe the sheer scope of the "poor me, it's soooooo hard" undergrad-esque whinging coming persistently from the White House.  If you didn't want that job, you wouldn't have that job, so don't come crying to me about how hard that job is now that you've got it (and are plainly angling to keep it).  Man up already.  Geez.
