The Los Angeles Times has an interesting report.
You may remember the experience of some Korean Americans in LA some time ago.

Rules for Duels
Check out the Code Duello and then watch the Firefly episode "Shindig." Here's the clip if you're in a hurry. Dueling with swords is so much more fun to watch than dueling with pistols.

Peeps vs. Firearms
If you're offended by this video, you probably shouldn't be reading this blog anyway! Look, Peeps are inedible and good only to be destroyed in wonderful ways.

Quote of the Day: Credibility in the Gun Control Debate
Nothing is so obvious that you don't have to spell it out:
If you push legislation on a social issue with arguments that are demonstrably wrong (as in “provably non-factual”), obviously ignorant, and deliberately deceptive, how are people supposed to believe that your arguments are factual, informed, and objective in any other policy debate?
If you think it’s no big deal to get your facts wrong, be ignorant about the issue at hand, and intentionally deceive people into voting your way when it comes to gun control, why should the fence-sitters and the opposition believe that you don’t play loose with the facts when it comes to climate change, energy policy, social justice, economic policies, or any of the other items on the progressive agenda? How can you be surprised when your efforts on, say, climate change are met with suspicion and outright hostility from the other side, and they accuse you of misrepresenting the data to push an agenda? After all, you’ve already set a precedent for that.

NOPE: Feinstein's "Assault Weapons" Ban
The guys over at Reason are Schadenfreudeliciously happy. Well, good, because the despicable demagoguing and hypocritical skulduggery that went into the current gun control hysteria was well nigh intolerable. And all for naught if Reid can't even scare up 40 votes in the Senate. Here's a little song:

Quote of the Day: Thoughts on Gun Control by a Chinese Dissident
Some food for thought as the gun control debate rolls on:
"Do you know that the Chinese Constitution guarantees almost all the nice things we have here? It is written that Chinese citizens enjoy freedom of speech and religion, they have human and property rights, and that such rights cannot be taken away without due process of the law. And do you know what? Chinese people do not have the right to keep and bear arms. I assure you all those nice guarantees are not worth the paper they are printed on, because when the government has all the guns, they have all the rights. I was not born a citizen of the United States. I was naturalized in 2007. In 2008, I became a proud gun owner. To me, a rifle is not for sporting or hunting; it is an instrument of freedom. It guarantees that I cannot be coerced, that I have free will, and that I am a free man."Here's the source:

Schadenfreude, Straight Up
Yes indeedy. Kudos to Ben Shapiro. Piers Morgan and his ilk get the "dirtbag du jour" tag. I make it a matter of standard practice not to give Morgan and his bullying, intellectually dishonest, attention-whoring, gutter-media kind any time on my blog, but Shapiro's performance is too gorgeous to let pass in silence.

Quote of the Day: Mark Steyn on Equal Justice Under Law
Just look at what l'affaire David Gregory hath wrought. Steyn observes:
Laws either apply to all of us or none of us. If they apply only to some, they’re not laws but caprices — and all tyranny is capricious.Well, DUH. Of course, I also feel compelled to offer this PSA: "The Fact That A Law Exists Doesn't Mean That It's Not Stupid." (On a related note, remember this? We're all felons now, eh?)

Quote of the Day: Samuel L. Jackson on Gun Violence
From a recent interview during which the reporter asked about Newtown:
"I don't think movies or video games have anything to do with it. I don't think [stopping gun violence] is about more gun control. I grew up in the South with guns everywhere, and we never shot anyone. This [shooting] is about people who aren't taught the value of life."Or more to the point, "don't care about the value of life."

Larry Correia on Gun Control
Why should you care what a bestselling sci-fi author has to say about guns? Because he was also a firearms instructor and competition shooter who has worked with law enforcement and knows more about guns than your average talking head on the news. Read this, please, if you haven't already. Here is a piece of it:
Gun Free Zones are hunting preserves for innocent people. Period.
Think about it. You are a violent, homicidal madman, looking to make a statement and hoping to go from disaffected loser to most famous person in the world. The best way to accomplish your goals is to kill a whole bunch of people. So where’s the best place to go shoot all these people? Obviously, it is someplace where nobody can shoot back.
In all honesty I have no respect for anybody who believes Gun Free Zones actually work. You are going to commit several hundred felonies, up to and including mass murder, and you are going to refrain because there is a sign? That No Guns Allowed sign is not a cross that wards off vampires. It is wishful thinking, and really pathetic wishful thinking at that.On another day I might blog about how I personally think that most efforts at gun control are actually and ultimately efforts at people control, but you pretty much can anticipate what I'd say, right? As for arguments that nobody should own firearms except the police ... Just stop and think about that for a minute. Do proponents of this realize that they're basically arguing in favor not only of more crime but also a potential police state? What happens if and when it gets corrupted and nasty and starts to abuse power and stomp on your civil liberties? Anyway, it's too late tonight to talk much more about a complicated issue and meditations on self-defense (not only as a right but also even as a responsibility), so I'm just going to sign off with this and one of my favorite lines from Firefly. You know the one, darlings. Oh, you know.

I'm not even going to try to pick one line from General Peter van Uhm's talk. Just watch this.

Robot Apocalypse Update: the Kuratas
A giant robot with guns ... and it can be controlled by smartphone. (Don't even bother asking where this thing is from. You know.) Hey, am I living in a Michael Bay movie? Either way, we're totally doomed, so I might have well have two scoops of ice cream instead of one, right? Right!

Chicks with Guns
OK, so that blog title sounds cooler than "15 million women adhere to the Second Amendment." Say what you will, but that one piece of equipment can be the difference between a woman being a victim or not. I vote for not being a victim.
The best "chick with a gun" story I have involves a genteel older lady who was always immaculately dressed, coiffed, and made up -- a former beauty queen with impeccable manners and fashion sense. In a passing conversation one day, she mentioned, "Oh, yes, I saw a rabid skunk out by the garage. I didn't have time to call my husband, so I just pulled my gun out of my purse and shot it myself." Then she went back to talking about interior decorating without missing a beat. I was impressed.
