Nerd Notes: Amusing Student Prank Alert as Scottish Kids Cover Classroom Floor with Turf

I thought this prank was darn amusing (and also very creative), though clearly the officials did not. Note how the adults involved haven't the foggiest clue about the student psyche!

Perhaps the students can defend themselves by saying that they were motivated by concern for Gaia and that they only wanted their school to be environmentally friendly...

It minds me of a Halloween prank I once took part in. The local garage owner intended to expand his garage and to that end recieved a shipment of concrete blocks all nicely palletized.

Halloween nights some of us tricksters unpalletized the blocks and restacked them to build a wall completely blocking all entry to the garage! We didn't use mortar although that would have improved the joke.

The owner laughed when he saw it and set his son (my best friend) to removing the wall, with assistance from some of the boys who put it up - including me!

Halloween jokes were elaborate and usually involved putting things in unusual places. Cars would end up miles from where they were parked, or the owners would find them per4ched in flower beds, etc.

The best tricks were one year when a township bulldozer wound up on the roof of it's garage. Another year there was a controversial proposal to put up a bunch of prefabricated houses on some old potato fields to sell to off-islanders. These houses were called 'Lindal Cedar Homes', and many people thought the idea less than classy.

One of my friends thought of a brilliant idea for Halloween. We rounded up every outhouse we could find & parked them in the parking lot of the restaurant across from the General Store, signposted 'Lindal Cedar Homes'!

Sounds like you had a great childhood, don. I didn't do any of that kind of stuff, but wish I had.

On turfing the floor, I'm surprised the school staff didn't make the students clean it up.
