Quote of the Day: WikiLeaks
In addition to their being no big lies, there are also no surprises–at least, no surprises for anyone paying attention to foreign affairs. Anyone really surprised by the fact that in private, Arab leaders are just as worried about a nuclear Iran as is Israel? Anyone really surprised that Nicolas Sarkozy has been said to have an authoritarian streak, that Silvio Berlusconi is too much of a party animal for his (and his country’s) own good, that democracy is dead in Russia, and that the Chinese are sick of the antics of the North Koreans? Oh, sure, the cables are very interesting, and informative. But are they all that shocking in their content? Hardly; we all are familiar with the storylines found in them. The titillating aspect of the cables is that they confirm what many have suspected regarding the opinions that are held by American diplomats, and that many of the cables make their points in interesting and colorful language.

Quirky Euro Files: Berlusconi's Beauties
I have to admire the cheekiness of the British headline too! Oh, my! *giggle*

Silvio Berlusconi, Mr. Popularity
Here's the latest: he's reveling in his sky-high approval ratings -- and challenging Obama. Silvio's many verbal fireworks are like Joe Biden's, except that Silvio's are far more flamboyant, colorful, and -- well -- fun to watch.
Silvio hasn't yet claimed to be more popular than Jesus Christ, though. Nope, that boast is all Beatles.

Italy: Requiem for Alitalia?
Last stop for Alitalia?
Love it or loathe it, Alitalia is an Italian icon. Silvio is now looking at the prospect of having to liquidate it. Oh, my.
Yes, I've flown Alitalia. The experience? Hmm. Watch this hilarious little cartoon and wait for the scene with Alitalia! Italians are all about drama, and airlines are no exception.

Quirky Euro Files: Italy's Berlusconi Working on Love Songs For New Music CD
"When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's amoreeeeeeeeeeee!!"
Oh, Silvio. You are so much fun to watch!
Now the colorful Italian PM is working on a music CD. More from IHT and entertainment news giant Variety. Silvio's CD's supposed to be full of love songs that he's written. Can we say, "cheesefest"? I can't make this stuff up if I tried. You'll remember, of course, that Silvio was a cruise-ship singer in his youth. That explains a lot about the pazzo, doesn't it? Link xie-xie to blogfriend Pursuit of Serenity, who observes -- very astutely -- that this news story was practically made for me.
Anyway, I don't think Italian pop star Gianluca Grignani has much to worry about. And I somehow don't think Silvio's going to be on Italian MTV anytime soon.
