It all sounds bizarre and unreasonable, but when words like 'racism,' 'ethnic cleansing,' and 'anti-immigrant' are thrown around by the left, I start looking for a catch.
And maybe it's in one of the comments left on the article:
As italian expatriate but with a sound knowledge of the Lucca town, let me explain the issue. This ban regards only a tiny portion of the town, inside the middle age walls, where are also banned along with cars, to add architectural components not matching the style of the old palaces.
No surprise there! Whenever the far left gets all huffy and starts using cheap-shot buzzwords, you know there's more to the tale!
The use of the term "culinary ethnic cleansing" made me laugh out loud.
Anyhoo, a few years ago there was a similar flap about some town banning the red lanterns outside Chinese restaurants because they looked out of place beside all the old medieval/Renaissance architecture.
'Culinary ethnic cleansing' is quite the giggle generator. At some level, in some areas figurative and / or geographical, Western culture is immensely absurd. I don't know if it's worked hard at it and gotten there slowly and deservedly, or if it's always been that way.
