Taiwan: Ma Re-Elected

UGH.  The Cine-Sib called to vent this morning.  We're not at all happy with this, Ma, or the KMT.  Still, voter turnout was estimated at more than 70% with about 13.5 million votes cast, and about 800,000 votes made the difference between Ma and the DPP's Tsai.  It would have been nice to have a woman president.  Still, here is one small consolation: James Soong fared miserably in third place.

Still, just having a free vote in view of the mainland could sow seeds. Mainland "election tourists" came across to see Taiwanese freely vote for actual real candidates. And a couple hundred thousand Taiwanese abroad--many from China who will be able to answer questions about why it was so important to go home to vote--came home to vote.

So stiff upper lip, and all. :-)

Yep, all that is true in playing the long game, though the morning after the election still kinda sucks.
