Forgotten History: Ice Delivery in 1918
From a fascinating collection of colorized vintage photos comes this great image. Caption: "'Girls deliver ice. Heavy work that formerly belonged to men only is being done by girls. The girls are delivering ice on a route and their work requires brawn as well as the patriotic ambition to help.' September 16, 1918. Wow, these girls must have been tough to do a hard job like that. Nowadays, ice delivery is much less physically demanding. Ice trucks deliver ice to several locations a day without breaking a sweat.

I think it's so cool to see old photographs like this colorized. It's also cool that it's girls delivering the ice when it used to be a man's job. Ice is heavy! I don't know how ice is delivered nowadays, but I do know we at least use trucks. I don't know if machines have taken over loading ice. http://www.longbeachice.com/Ice-Delivery-Long-Beach-CA.html
