Geek News: Hackinoodle?

This is actually something that a geek buddy of mine is going to attempt: turning a Nook Color into a Kindle!  He and I are now trying to come up with a mishmash of a name for it!    So far he suggested "Kook" or "Nindle."  I still think my "Hackinoodle" is better.  Suggestions?

Sign of the Apocalypse: Amazon Now Sells Vuvuzelas

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Then again, it's the whole supply-and-demand thing kicking in.  That goofy South African invention the vuvuzela's the hot accessory of the moment!  I guess I should say "Yay!" for free market capitalism and all that, even if vuvuzelas make my head hurt from all that noise.  (And make me watch World Cup matches on TV on *mute*!)

Also: an evil part of me (yes, I'm unabashedly evil) is now fantasizing about what would happen if I took one to a faculty meeting.  Or a Nerdmoot!

BBBBBBBBBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!

Well, it sounds about as sensible as some conference papers I've heard.
Heck, it's even an improvement on others.

Kitchen Notes: Frying in Your Wok

Yes.  If you have a wok, you really don't need a separate deep fryer gadget.  You know what's awesome fried in a wok?  Tempura.  Aw yeah.

Monday Therapy: Geek Fun With "I Am A Scientist"

The song is "I Am A Scientist" by the endearingly named Dandy Warhols. I'm posting it as a shout-out to my/our fondness for science, science fiction, tech toys, and geeky pleasures. (Too bad there's not a similar song called "I Am A History Nerd.")

BONUS for La Parisienne and California Dreamer: some video footage of one our favorite science maniacs to go along with the song on this, June 21, the first official day of summer.

Anyway, as the name of one useful and geek-tastic website does remind us, Geeks Are Sexy. (Well, some geeks, anyway!)

Kitchen Notes: Should I Get An Ebelskiver Pan?

It just looks SO DARN COOL. Plus, it makes those beautiful, spherical Danish pancakes that have goodies inside (like these apple-filled ones). I think I also just like saying "ebelskiver."

Hello Kitty Monstrosity of the Day: the Hello Kitty Bento Box

Horrifying. (For more bloodcurdling bento horror, click here.) BUT, I have to admit that this related video (a how-to video for making a bento box lunch) is just as horrifying in another way! What's worse, really, the octopus-shaped sausage or the total misuse of Chopin?

Hello Kitty Monstrosity of the Day: the Pink Hello Kitty Coffeemaker

Consider this a fond wave farewell to Il Barista! *blows a kiss*

The nickname "Satan Coffee" has never been more fitting.

You will remember this other monstrosity, no? For even more Hello Kitty coffee-related madness, you can go here.

Geek Fun and Quirky Asia Files: the Korean Color-Picker Pen

Life imitates PhotoShop! Blurb:
Korean designer Jinsu Park designed a concept pen that adopts the eyedropper tool of Photoshop for real life. The color picker pen enables colors in the environment to be scanned and instantly used for drawing. the sensor detects the color and matches it to the color display. Then the RGB cartridge located within the pen mixes the inks together to create the color that has been scanned.
Cool!

MM in the Kitchen: Cherry Clafoutis

Cherries were on sale (!), so I bought a whole lot of them. Now what to do, what to do? Try a recipe I usually can't try because cherries are too expensive, that's what! So I am going to attempt . . . *drum roll here* . . . cherry clafoutis!

The basic recipe seems easy enough, though here is a slightly more elaborate version (with amaretto for foodie boozehounds like YOU, La Parisienne and Il Barista) or you can try this one with kirsch and a whole vanilla bean (ditto what I said in the last parentheses).

I just went out and splurged on this goofy-looking gizmo too at one of my favorite cookware shops to window-shop.

UPDATE: The cherry-pitter gizmo is AWESOME!
