Dave Grohl Turns Awesomeness Up to Eleven

I've posted about Foo Fighters' and Dave Grohl's awesomeness before, but this is of an entirely different magnitude.

Come on, just look at the headline:"'I think I just broke my leg': Dave Grohl finishes show after Sweden stage plunge: Foo Fighters frontman returns to the stage in Gothenburg after treatment, completing the set with his bandaged leg propped up in front of him."

Grohl is now an even bigger rock god whose badassery is clear to all.

Apparently he then told his worried fans, "I may not be able to walk or run but I can still play guitar and scream."

Here's a song in his honor:

World Cup 2014: Great Run, Team USA!

It was a great run, and just think: we made it into the Round of 16, something that supposedly better teams could not manage.  We lost to Belgium 2-1, and the last 15 minutes were insane.

Man of the hour: US goalie Tim Howard, who racked up a record-setting 16 saves.  Absolutely amazing.  After the match Belgium team captain Vincent Kompany went on Twitter to salute him:
Howard is currently the darling of the Internet (check out the hilarious hashtag #ThingsTimHowardCouldSave) and rightfully so.  Look what one fan did on Wikipedia:

How an Absurdist Party of Anarcho-Surrealists Governed in Iceland

You may remember that back in 2010 I noted comedian Jon Gnarr's spoof campaign that actually put him on top of the polls.  Here's a fresh look at how this mayor of Reykjavik governed.  I love this comment by one of Gnarr's friends:
"My question was always: 'How do we f*** the system?' ... "And the answer was, we show that non-politicians can do the job as well."
Apparently Gnarr did a decent job in office.  Screw the establishment, and do it with a smile!  I can't resist reposting one of Gnarr and his self-proclaimed Best Party's hilarious campaign videos:

Kick Off Your Sunday Shoes!

Here's your 1980s nostalgia in glorious fashion as Kevin Bacon proves that he's still got it at 55 as he outdances people half his age. (Footloose is 30 years old this year?!)

LOLympics: Trouser Trouble

Honestly, I love these guys with their crazy outfits.  I think it's wonderfully fun. So do a lot of other folks, and the colorful patterned outfits of the Norwegian men's curling team have become celebrities in their own right.  See, for instance, a daily tracker of the different patterns!

So fugly it's fabulous.

So, inevitably, there will be haters.  Apparently now the haters are squeaking complaints demanding to know if the pants are legal to wear under the terms of the IOC and the World Curling Federation.  Neither organization has really responded, but the Norwegians did, and this made me laugh out loud.  The team, in response to the kerfuffle about their pants, posted this photo:

Don't like our colorful trousers?  Fine, we won't wear them.

Kudos, guys!  That's world-class sass right there, especially the fellow at the far right.

The only way this could be better is if the undies had the same loud, colorful patterns as the actual competition outfits, but I don't think the guys had enough time to arrange custom undies.  Hey! How about this for an idea: make a Norwegian Men's Curling Team CALENDAR?

PS: I found the pants in a form I would wear in warmer weather.  Cute, no?

Friday Fun Video: Welcoming the Freshmen to Georgia Tech

The entire speech by sophomore Nick Selby is here, but this is the absolute highlight:

"You're at Georgia Tech!  You can do that!"

PS: Don't miss the Nerd Lord sitting in the top right corner.  Watch him crack up.

At 80 years old, this Japanese extreme athlete is now officially the oldest man ever to climb Everest.  Kudos, sir!  There's some proof right there that you're never too old to kick ass!

New Canadian Currency Is Out of This World

Cmdr. Chris Hadfield has the bully pulpit from the ISS, and he's turned into Canada's best PR officer ever.  Check out his latest for the Bank of Canada.  As Geekosystem gushes, "The New Canadian Five Dollar Bill Has Space Robots on It, Makes Presidents Look Lame."

Seriously, though, if you haven't been following Hadfield's exploits on YouTube and on Twitter, you've been missing out on all sorts of great stuff (like this exchange or this holiday-themed musical offering).
