Canadian Op-Ed: Harper 1, Obama 0

What was I just saying about the Canadians being ahead of the curve?  I found this little op-ed rather interesting, not least because it comes out in praise of Stephen Harper and I can't really remember the last time a Canadian journalist spoke about the Prime Minister in order to praise him.  Over Obama.

The reality-defying insistence that the youtube clip is the source of all the trouble reminds me of the US State Department spokesmen who did their best to avoid the characterization of "genocide" during the Rwandan genocide in order to forestall US/UN intervention.

Last year, Obama boasted of the difference between the American roles in the Libya and Iraq regime changes. But now, Libyan President al-Megarif's description of the Stevens killing seats Libya in the War on Terror, thus calling Obama’s hands-off approach to the Arab Spring into question and demanding greater American involvement in Libya. Whereas Ambassador Rice is attempting to define the problem as a one-time ‘spontaneous’ incident, and therefore, no indictment of Obama’s strategy nor basis for greater American involvement. Libya appears to be taking a step closer to asking the US for more assistance on the ground. Meanwhile, Rice and the US seem to be running from an approaching entreaty for help.
