Quote of the Day, Understatement of the Week

Here it is, kids:
The Arab uprisings have overthrown tyrants in Egypt and Libya, but the populations and lawmakers have yet to grasp that democracy is not only about free elections but creating free societies.
You don't say!

Why I use the term 'liberal' rather than 'democracy'.

Just read the Ed Husein CNN piece you linked. Two comments.

1. I recommend Husein read Syed Qutb's foundational work, especially 'Milestones', to explain the difference between the Islam that President Bush calls the 'religion of peace' and Qutb's political Islam, which is a 20th century totalitarian movement. (Given his credentials, he should already be familiar with Qutb.)

2. "The millions of protestors last year in Arab capitals that chanted "hurriyah, karamah, adala ijtima'iyya" or "freedom, dignity and social justice" cannot allow for the emotions of bigots to derail their revolution."

"Cannot allow"? Who has the power to allow whom over there?

"Their revolution"? Whose revolution is it?

"Whose revolution is it?"

That's the question, no?
