Film Culture Commentary: 75 Films Every Man Should Watch?

Here's a new list of 75 flicks that every guy should watch. Really, just for the boys? There's not a single sappy chick-flick or rom-com in the whole list -- which means I love it already. I do love me some action flicks, after all.

Some of the movies on the list: "The Godfather" (of course), "Glory," "The Great Escape," "Dr. No," "Cool Hand Luke," "Dirty Harry," and "Patton." All great films -- and not just for the guys!

The list leaves off plenty of good movies, though. (What, no "Die Hard" or "Rocky"?!) Put your suggestions in comments!

I would add, for instance, "El Cid," "The Sands of Iwo Jima," "The Magnificent Seven," "Planet of the Apes" (the Charlton Heston version, not the remake!), "Stand and Deliver," and "Enter the Dragon" for starters. Definitely "Enter the Dragon." For a newer film, add "The Dark Knight."

Poltroon, but not Full Metal Jacket? No Apocalypse Now? We Were Soldiers? The Bridge on the River Kwai? Saving Private Ryan? BAT 21? The Green Berets? Air America? I sense a disturbing lack of understanding of war movies ...

Also, can a man really afford to not see Yojimbo and Seven Samurai?

And-and-and, Tootsie? EVERY GUY needs to see TOOTSIE!?

Finally, with Unforgiven, Tombstone, True Grit, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and The Cowboys left off, I know some late 20s or early 30s metrosexual in Manhattan wrote this. I just know it.

The Dirty Dozen should be on there.

And if you want emotion over that, see Sleepless in Seattle for Tom Hanks and his friend getting all weepy over the deaths of a couple soldiers in the movie:
