Kissing the London Games Goodbye

It's all over but the partying at the Closing Ceremonies. What great Games!  There really is something special about the Olympics despite all their problems and issues and the fact that colorful kinesio tape seems to be the current athletic equivalent of duct tape (put that stuff on everything!). So what is MM is going to remember?  Oh, there's so much!

Highlights have to include:
  • Her Majesty the Queen and 007
  • Usain Bolt!  And his signature pose!  Nobody does victory laps than this guy!  He's a rock star!
  • Michael Phelps and his incredible collection of 22 medals
  • Oscar Pistorius, the "Blade Runner" who won our hearts (bonus: exchanging bibs with Grenada's Kirani James, who has his own tale - he went on to win Grenada's first medal)
  • Mo Farah (everybody do the "Mobot"!)
  • Gabby Douglas
  • Prince William and Kate being absolutely adorable sports fans at a million events. Oh, and Prince Harry too.
  • USA basketball
  • Samuel L. Jackson's hilarious real-time commentary on Twitter
  • The sheer glory and joy of Team GB
  • Epke Zonderland of the Netherlands winning gold on the men's high bar.  I am not kidding
  • The US ladies burning up the racetrack in their relays.
  • The Jamaican guys astounding the world with their 4 X 100 relay.
  • Misty and Kerri's beach volleyball threepeat
  • Victory celebrations!

Lowlights, though, have to include:
  • The wet sloppy kiss to the NHS during the Opening Ceremonies. Come on.
  • Various dipsticks who beclowned themselves on Twitter and got booted from the Games
  • The badminton losing scandal
  • NBC's craptacular coverage that at least spawned this hilarity
  • Idiots hating on Gabby Douglas's hair.  This is all I have to say.
  • Ryan Lochte admitting to ... ah .. polluting the pool.  SERIOUSLY?
  • Stupid media frenzy about Lolo Jones's personal life
  • Awful mascots and logo
  • RYAN SEACREST
  • The US flag flies away during Serena Williams' very windy medal ceremony
  • My total inability to hear the national anthem of the UK as anything other than "My Country 'Tis Of Thee."
  • UPDATE: NBC making an infuriating debacle of its broadcast of the Closing Ceremonies.

Oh, I can't help it.  Here's one of my favorite photos of the Games - two of my favorite athletes, and each one is doing the other's signature pose!  Check out Mo Farah and Usain Bolt being adorable. Just look at those grins!

See you in Rio in 2016!
