Nerd News: 4 Things Worth Reading

Thing the First: Administrative bloat is driving up the cost of higher ed.  Well, DUH!  Edu-crats are bad news for everyone except themselves. Blurb:
Between 1993 and 2007, the number of full-time administrators per 100 students at America’s leading universities grew by 39 percent, while the number of employees engaged in teaching, research or service only grew by 18 percent.

Thing the Second: Irate law school grads say they were misled about job prospects.  I suppose this is like profs telling hapless students, "Sure, major in (insert unmarketable major here)!  You'll be able to get a great job."  Would you like fries with that?  For the law students, this is even more pressing -- and financially ruinous.  The job market is flooded -- and was flooded even before the recession.

Thing the Third: Thoughts on professors, tenure, retirement, employment.

Thing the Fourth: OK, this isn't about university education, but it's worth a look because it's about that $10 billion "edu-jobs" thing that the government's done.  OK, so the idea is to give money to school districts so they will hire teachers.  But the districts still aren't hiring.
