Nerd News: New National Academic Standards

Here we go. Blurb:
The nation’s governors and state school chiefs released on Wednesday a new set of academic standards, their final recommendations for what students should master in English and math as they move from the primary grades through high school graduation.
My usual response to stuff like this: "Pfffffft." There's endless talk about "standards," but they don't translate necessarily into the mastery of these essential skills. First get rid of the social engineering aspect of school, the self-esteem faux pop psychology aspect of school, the race-pandering, the political correctness, the multiculti madness, and then come talk to me because then you might actually have time and energy to teach English and math.
