To be fair to Hillary - neither was Maggie the 'Iron Lady' at a similar crux in her career. The British system tends to force MP's to be truckling and subservient in the face of powerful government ministers, particularly the PM and the Opposition leader for quite a long time; Maggie was no exception.
Successful politicians also master the art of the backstab - or rather getting others to do the dirty work for them and appearing above the fray - whilst cleaning up. Maggie was the exception to the rule as she both did the throat-slitting and took the leadership afterward. But you could not have guessed even a year beforehand that she would be the one who would step up and do the job.
